The second half of Thursday's game matched the second half of the season for the Sprague High School football team.
The Olympians trailed North Salem 7-6 at halftime but outgained the Vikings 205 yards to 52 yards in the second half and reeled off 26 points for the 32-7 home win.
Sprague's third consecutive win improves the Olympians to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the Central Valley Conference.
Sprague is tied with West Salem for the league's top spot. The teams meet Oct. 28 on the final Friday of the regular season.
"The last couple weeks it's been to play with emotion, and that's one thing that was lacking at the beginning of the season," Sprague safety/receiver Lincoln Cook said.
"Our defense has come around and started to play with emotion. And our line's gotten after it. We're just coming together as a unit."
Sprague junior Devvon Gage, who missed a preseason game because of a concussion, had his second big rushing game in a row.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound fullback ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
Sprague's offensive line played markedly better than earlier in the season, and the Olympians had 276 yards rushing and 376 yards of total offense.
"I think when our team comes together, starting with our front line, we really start to go," senior center Andrew Fraser said. "When our front line's really keying in together like a team, our holes open up, and that was really important for us."
North Salem, which drops to 2-1 in the CVC and 4-3 overall, scored first.
North Salem concluded a 15-play drive early in the second quarter with quarterback Sam Lyon throwing a 20-yard touchdown pass to DaShawn Keebler. Bailey Schmidt's PAT kick put the Vikings up 7-0.
On Sprague's ensuing drive, the Olympians ripped off big chunks of offense — six plays went for more than 10 yards each.
Gage ran for a 4-yard touchdown, but a high snap ruined the PAT attempt, and the Vikings still held a 7-6 lead.
"I just thought we did a good job on the line of scrimmage, both sides," North Salem coach Jeff Flood said of the first half. "Tackling on the defensive side and then tracking the ball, we let them get outside of us, and that's what hurt us."
The teams traded punts through most of the third quarter, but the Olympians' offense finally broke through.
Gage went untouched 20 yards for his second touchdown with 2:24 left in the third quarter to give Sprague its first lead at 12-7.
After another North Salem punt, Sprague put together another drive. Quarterback Jon Schaub hit Cook at the 5-yard line, and Cook went in for a touchdown and a 19-7 lead.
Sprague took advantage of interceptions by John Marshall and Brady Garcia to score rushing touchdowns by Nick Moran and Gage to put the game out of reach.
In the second half, Sprague gained 153 yards rushing while holding North Salem to 38 yards.
"They had some good speed," Gage said. "We just contained it, did our jobs, plugged up the holes and rallied to the ball."
