For the first time in many years, a single class at Sprague (period four Drawing II and Advanced Drawing) has swept the Awesome 3000 art contest. Raychel Pederson was the first place winner. Raychel will be signing autographs on May 5th at the Awesome 3000. Every year, the Salem Keizer Education Foundation sponsors a contest for a winning design to appear on runner and volunteer T-shirts, posters, registration forms, and more. Lexy Waterman took second place and Brenda Marcus was awarded third place. All three received a check in an awards ceremony on January 9th. Connie Toland was awarded a check to be used in the art classroom as the winning teacher.
Also, Krystof Capuras, a drawing I student, won honorable mention for his design for the Oregon Humane Society 69th Annual Be Kind To Animals Poster Contest. The theme for high school entrants was “Be an Advocate: Be a Voice for Pets.” He won a gift card and an invitation to be present at an awards ceremony on January 28th in Portland.
If you see any of these outstanding Oly artists, be sure to give them a high five!
