Sprague High School’s Sports Medicine CTE Program is hosting a Salem-Keizer Health Services Summer Camp for middle school students July 23-27. Students interested in the healthcare field will have real life healthcare career experiences as they travel to Portland to visit Walton Physical Therapy and the Portland Trailblazers Sports Medicine Programs. Students will also travel to West Valley Hospital in Dallas to participate in hands on activities in the Lab, Rehab, and Imaging Departments, as well as have a tour of the Oregon State Hospital in Salem. In the classroom, student will have the opportunity to be certified in Heartsaver First Aid and CPR and participate in hand-on learning activities such as taping labs and anatomy dissections. Guest speakers include the Chief Deputy Medical Examiner of Marion County who will detail his experiences in the field, and students will participate in a crime lab simulation. By the end of the camp, students will have had a multiple experiences in various areas of healthcare and will leave having a better understanding of this very diverse and exciting field.
