Introduction

In this activity we will practice:

Procedure

Open a Word document and save it as: last first int practice.doc

  1. Go to Google images
  2. Search for horses
  3. Find an image that interests you
  4. Select the image of greatest size - don't select the "thumbnail" view (this is important)
  5. Right click and select <save image">
  6. Save to your thawspace in your images folder- rename it as you save it if need be
  7. Be sure to remember name and location
  8. Go back to your Word document- select <insert><picture><from file> (you can also copy/paste directly from the Internet into your Word document)
  9. Navigate to your image and insert into your Word document
  10. Select the picture so you can resize it- "grab" a corner and enlarge or shrink so the width is about half the size of the page
  11. Copy/paste the following text into your document:

    I like horses, but horses are kind of scary. They are big animals and they can be dangerous if you aren't careful. I still enjoy being around them despite my fear. It is fun to feed them apples and carrots. Mr. Ed was one of my favorite horses. I wish all horses could talk. By now you get the idea that I am typing random thoughts just so we have some text to copy into our Word document. I am going to repeat this text over and over so we have a large enough block so we can have the text wrap around the image.

  13. Right click on the image and select <format pictue><layout><tight>
  14. The text should wrap around the image . You may need to move the picture into the text for it to wrap
  15. Resize the image so text and graphic look attractive and the text is easy to read
  16. Go back to the website where you found the image. Copy the URL (web address) on this page.
  17. At the bottom of the text select <insert><break><page break> This will create a new page for a different image
  18. Repeat the 16 steps searching for images of your choice. Create some text of your own so you can practice formatting the image with text. Try differnet formatting options (tight, behind, in front) have some fun.
