Introduction

Tiny URL is a website that will help you with those horrible web addresses that are a mile long!

The Tiny URL website allows you to create a short version you can use on a web page, email, or other applications.

Note-

• This activity uses a specific location (Applebees) to simplify directions
• If you would like to use another address (like your home address), feel free to do so
• The ending address must be Sprague's (see directions below)

Procedure:

1. Open a new Word document and save the file as:
   • last first tiny url.doc
2. Google search for the address of "Applebees" in south Salem
• Record the address in your Word doc
3. Go to MapQuest directions
   • FOR THIS ACTIVITY TO WORK, MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE "CLASSIC" MAPQUEST!
4. Get directions from "Applebees" to Sprague High School
• Sprague's address:
  • 2373 Kuebler Rd S
  • Salem Or, 97302
5. Copy the URL for the directions into your Word document
• the address will be very long... make sure you copy all of it!
6. Go to the Tiny URL website ( tinyurl.com )
7. Create a short version for your address
• You may have to try several names to find one that isn't used.
• Try including your name and school directions (or something like that...)
8. Copy/paste this shortened web address in your Word document
9. Select the link in the Word document to make sure it loads the MapQuest page you just created
10. Here is my example: (I used the Great Wall restaurant for variation)
    • http://tinyurl.com/great-wall-to-sprague
11. Copy/paste the Word document to the submissions folder (directions to folder given in class)
