Introduction:
Below you will see the sales activity for one week at the Oly Clothing Store. The store has a rather small selection having only 4 items of clothing for sale and only 4 employees. You will be asked to use an Excel spreadsheet to answer some questions about the sales activities for this one week period.Important information :
- The store is open Tuesday through Sunday and is closed Monday.
- The data in the table will show the sales of all the items in the clothing store for 1 week.
- 3/2 will be the first working day of the work week (Tuesday) and 3/7 is the last day of the work week (Sunday)
- For this activity assume a worker is at work if he/she sells a clothing item and is off if he/she doesn't.
Goals for this project:
- Learn to use the filtering option
- Sort and filter to obtain desired information
- Efficiently record information into appropriate sheets
- Learn to use the auto-sum feature
- Efficiently find totals for required columns
- Learn to use the sub-total option
- Use the wizard to efficiently change and record information
- Analyze data
- Draw conclusions from a massive amount of information!!
Procedure:
Task 1 Getting the data to Excel
- Download the blank spreadsheet from the Internet
- It will also be availble in files to copy on tech2
- Rename the spreadsheet: last first clothing sales.xls
- Select this link and follow the instructions so you can copy/paste all the data into your Clothing Sales spreadsheet
Task 2 Writing Formulas
If you know how to copy and paste this task will go quickly.
Find the Gross Amount:
- Replace the ***** in the data with formulas
- The formula should calculate the gross total using the "quantity" and cost per item
- When you are done you should have the gross amount sold by each employee.
***Copy all this information into the next sheet named "all data"***. We are going to leave the raw data table as it is now.
Task 3 Crunching the data- Practice for Reports
As the store manager you would like to learn about how your clothing store performed for this week. It is time to use Excel as a tool to accomplish this task.
I will be showing you how to use the "AutoFiler" and "SubTotal" features to quickly crunch the numbers. This will be done as a class demonstration
