Introduction:
The purpose of this activity is to learn how to make and use bookmarks and hyperlinks in Microsoft Word.
The theme we will use:
- Make an advertisement
- This ad will use a menu to bookmarked links
Here is an example for discussion:

- ***The web based version does not include page breaks which we will add in MS Word***
Procedure:
Step 1 Create the document and add the title "Ad Activity"
- Open a Word document and save as:
- last-first-ad.doc
- Use the "Headings Drop Down" in the toolbar and select "Heading 1"
- Enlarge font as well to your liking (I used +20 and it looked nice)
- Meaningful text will replace "Ad Activity" once you select a topic
Step 2 Make a simple table
- Hit enter a few times
- Find the "table" menu in the toolbar and...
- insert a table with 6 rows and 2 columns.
- This will serve as your menuing system like my example.
Step 3 Put in the links Insert text as shown.
The Descriptions can be left blank for now.

***Note 1- Page 1 is the home page and does not require a link in the menu***
***Note 2- Pg 2, 3 etc will be replaced with meaningful text in the finished product***
Step 4 Inserting page breaks
Page breaks are used to force new pages where you want them. Adding or editing text on one page doesnt't affect others! Follow these instructions:
- Under your table, hit enter a few times to create space
- Goto to <insert> on the tool bar at the top
- Choose <break> from the list
- Choose <page break> from this list
- Click OK
- Use the "Headings Drop Down" to create a title (heading #2 makes sense)
- Hit enter a few times to create space
- Repeat directions above for adding a page break
- Repeat until you have the home page and 5 additional pages
Step 5 Creating a Bookmark
You should have 6 pages now, a home page with the menu table and 5 additional pages.
Create a bookmark:
- Scroll to page 2 and find the first position on the page (top left)
- Go to <insert> and <bookmark>
- Type "page2" (no spaces) for the bookmark name
- Select <add> to create the bookmark
Step 6 Bookmark each page
Scroll to page 3 and follow the directions above to create bookmarks on each page
You should have a bookmark at the top of each page (pages 2-6)
Step 7 Making a hyperlink to your bookmark
Go back to your table on your home page and link 1. Now you can make a link to bookmark 1.
- Highlight the text and choose <Insert> and then <hyperlink> .
- In the left column make sure "place in this document" is checked.
- Browse within this file and and choose bookmarks .
- Choose the appropriate bookmark and hit OK.
- That is all there is to it. Be sure to save frequently
Step 8 Making your advertisement
Now you have blank pages to create your ad
You must pick some kind of theme... ideas:
- popular vacation spot
- restaurant or other business
- cruise to different exotic spots
- particular product (real or something from your creative mind!)
- city or state
Remember:
- What you select must have 5 different "apects" to advertise (fill 5 pages)
- Lots of options... but if your topic is too narrow or specific, sometimes it is hard to come up with 5 different areas
- This is YOUR AD. You will be finding images and ideas online, but it can't be a direct copy of an online ad!!!

- Make sure to change the menu text (pg 2, 3 etc) to meaningful text that fits your ad
