Baltimore Ravens defensive end Bill Swancutt, a Sprague High School graduate, will be the speaker at the Monmouth-Independence Rotary Club luncheon at noon Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 1505 Monmouth St., Independence.
Luncheon cost is $8, and visitors are welcome.
Chad Coburn did everything he could to keep the Sprague baseball team in the Central Valley Conference race last week.
The senior hit a pair of home runs, then capped the week with a SportsCenter-caliber catch Friday to help save a win against first-place South Salem.
The two-way success is nothing new for Coburn. He was first-team all-CVC on both sides of the ball for the Sprague football team this season.
LAST YEAR'S DISTRICT PLACING: Seventh place
COACH: Les Charles, third year
ATHLETES TO WATCH:
Hannah Cohen, sr.: Placed in the top five in the district last season in both distance races.
Darien Logologo, jr.: After placing fourth in the CVC in the shot put as a sophomore, she could contend for the league championship.
OUTLOOK: Sprague doesn't return many district meet scorers, but should have younger athletes make contributions.
